BELLOWS FALLS, VT (September 3, 2015) - Sovernet Communications announced today that it has been selected by Community College of Vermont (CCV) to provide voice services for all twelve of CCV’s academic centers throughout Vermont. Under the three-year agreement, Sovernet will deliver telephone services and equipment for more than 300 phone lines over its fiber optic network through an integrated hosted PBX system. The contract award is the result of a request for proposals for Voice over IP (VoIP) services issued by CCV in March of this year.
“Migrating our voice communications to our data network allows us to reduce operating costs, modernize and standardize the college’s telephone system across all facilities, and increase flexibility, while avoiding a large capital expenditure to do so,” said Charles Bombard, Director of IT Infrastructure at Community College of Vermont. “What we like most about Sovernet’s proposal is their fail-over plan for business continuity, in the event of an outside loss of primary connectivity or power.”
Under the agreement announced today, Sovernet will install an on-net hosted PBX system utilizing proven quality Cisco routers, switches, and phones and Sovernet’s Next Generation MetaSwitch. This new system will replace CCV’s existing internal telephone system and eliminate the need to purchase outdated technologies. The Sovernet hosted PBX system is delivered via Vermont’s newest and fastest state-of-the-art 100G fiber optic network, the same network that currently supports CCV locations across Vermont for its Wide Area Network (WAN) data connectivity.
Previously, under separate agreements, Sovernet began providing WAN services to 15 Vermont State College (VSC) sites throughout the state, including several CCV locations. Sovernet is also providing primary Internet connectivity for the CCV facility in Winooski, and backup Internet connectivity for the entire VSC system.
“We are proud to expand our existing partnership with CCV by now offering a custom solution that includes seamless system-wide emergency contingencies for voice services both on and off campus,” said Rich Kendall, Sovernet’s President & CEO.
