Support for ValleyNet Accounts

Passwords  |  Email Questions  |  Connections  |  Misc.  |  Policies

What is my ValleyNet password?
Your original password is either the last eight digits of your social security number (if you signed up with ValleyNet before 1 January 1998), or it is your birthdate (expressed in the form 07-15-51).

Can I use letters and numbers in my password?
Yes, passwords are alpha-numeric. They can be letters or numbers, or both mixed, up to eight characters in length; no spaces or punctuation.

Are user names case sensitive?
No. Your user name is not case sensitive, meaning you do not have to be concerned about capitalization when typing in your user name.

Are passwords case sensitive?
YES! Once you change your password from your original ValleyNet password, you must be careful to remember whether you used capitalization. If you type in "fido" when you log in, and your password is "Fido", you will not get authorization.

How do I change my password?
If you use BlitzMail, run Blitzmail, select Edit DND Entry... under the Blitz pull down menu. You have options there for changing your password as well as for adding nicknames. Any password changed under Blitz will also change your password for logging into ValleyNet. Make sure you remember it. Remember that once you change your password you'll need to change the password stored in your computer's Connect to ValleyNet icon to the new password.

You can also change your password in the mail.valley.net webmail utility.

I forgot my password. What do I do now?
You can call our Call Center between 8 and 8. We cannot send it via email for security reasons.

Questions about Email

I would like to establish another separate email box under my current account. What do I have to do?
The mail box will be added to your current account. The charge for the extra mailbox would be an additional $4.95 per month. The connection time for each extra mailbox would be added to the connection time for the host account; for instance, if you have a 100-hour-per-month account and your total connection time exceeds 100 hours for all of the mailboxes combined, you would be charged $.50 per hour for each hour in excess of 100 hours. The billing for the new mailbox will be added to that of the host account.

I'm still mystified by how we access my husband's new mailbox. Do I have to set up something in Eudora? Are there instructions on opening a new mailbox? Somehow we just can't get in.
The easiest way to access two different accounts is to use BlitzMail. Visit our Software page for information on downloading this program.

With the free version of Eudora, you need to load a second copy of the program on your machine in another directory and set it up for your husband's name and password. (You'll have to create the directory and follow the instructions we gave you originally except that you will be creating a directory with a different name. For example, you could call the new Eudora directory "Eudora2") Then, create a shortcut for that new version and call the shortcut Sam's Mail or something similar. You can also rename the original shortcut to Eudora so that you can keep straight on your desktop which copy of Eudora is configured for which account.

Do you have any idea why a I can receive mail but cannot send it using Eudora? I am getting logged on, and can check mail, but cannot send it. The error message reads: Network error with SMPT server
The first thing to do is to check the SMTP server setting and make sure that it is set to the proper server in the mail server settings of your e-mail program. Contact us for information on your specific account settings (contact info in right column).

As a longtime user of ValleyNet, I have been dismayed to see that I am starting to receive a number of unwanted, unsolicited commercial email messages. Is there anything I can do about this as a ValleyNet subscriber? Please help me!
Neither ValletNet nor SoNerMet make customer email addresses available to anyone. If some firm has it, they have seized it off of some posting through a software search on the web itself. All ValleyNet accounts include the Message Center junkmail-blocking service, at no extra charge. This service blocks junk emails and emails containing dangerous email viruses from ever getting into your email in-box. For more information on this service, see E-mail Filtering.”

Can I forward my email from one mailbox to another?
Using Blitzmail, you can set forwarding to yourself. You can also use the ValleyNet accounts' on-line e-mail program; this program also allows you to set and remove e-mail forwarding. If you would like mail from another account forwarded to your ValleyNet account, and you have another mailbox at another service, send email to postmaster@domain.name (for instance, postmaster@computerland.com) and request that your email get forwarded to your ValleyNet account. That way you will only have to check one mail box when you log in. If you are moving out of the area and would like your mail forwarded to a new email account, just let us know. When you cancel a ValleyNet account, we will provide this forwarding service free for one month, and for $50 per year after that period.

Connection Issues

Additional Dial-In Accounts
These aremost useful for a business, where more than one person will need to be dialed into the network simultaneously. Each additional dial-in account costs $15.95 per month, and provides another dial-in connection and another e-mail box. Each additional dial-in account allows you another 100 hours of connection time per month. To set up an additional dial-in account, contact Accounts via the phone or links in the right column.

When I've been on line with Outlook Express for a while, an Auto-Disconnect feature asks me if I want to stay on line. How can I deactivate this?
That's an Outlook Express feature. To disable that, open Outlook Express and go to Tools | Options on the top menu bar. Under Options, click on the Connection tab and uncheck both of the boxes under Dial-up if they're checked.

How do I change the number I dial? I changed it in the connect window but the next time I try to connect I see the old number.
Go to Dial-up Networking folder under the My Computer icon and open that folder by double clicking on it. Then click once on the ValleyNet icon to highlight it and then select Properties under the File pull down menu. Once you see the new window, you change the phone number under the Telephone field. It will remain changed there if you click OK.

When I try to connect, the connection hangs on Verify User Name and Password. What should I do now?
First, verify that you have entered your username and password correctly. Make sure you do not have "Caps Lock" on, as passwords are case specific.
