SSL Settings for Popular Email Software
Using SSL encryption with your email provides a greater level of security against the possibility of your username and password being hijacked as your request is enroute to the server. SSL encrypts only between your computer and the mail server, it does not encrypt your entire email message from the mail server to the recipient. Encrypting email messages requires a program such as PGP, see the PGP Personal Desktop info page § at their site.
