In this section you will find instructions for the following connection software:

Dial-Up Networking & the Network Control Panel

Users of W95/98 & NT are able to dispense with DNS numbers for SoVerNet altogether. Making this change is a matter of accessing the DialUp Networking (DUN) connector as instructed below.

Additionally, you will want to check the TCP/IP properties in your Network control panel and see that the "DNS Configuration" tab is 'Disabled.'

An exception to this would be if the DNS Configuration tab has been configured with DNS addressing for another ISP or your company's LAN. If the old SoVerNet numbers (204.71.16.10 & 204.71.16.11) are displayed, then remove them and 'Disable' the setting.

W 95/98 DIAL-UP NETWORKING

Open "My Computer," then the DialUp Networking folder.

Find the icon named "SoVerNet" or whatever name you gave to the SoVerNet dialer

Click right mouse button on that icon, choose Properties.

  • Click on "Server Type
    - Make sure Dial-Up Server type is "PPP. . . "

-- Select "server assigned domain name address"
  • Click "OK" all the way back out. Close the DialUp Networking folder.

  • Double click on Network
**Note: If you have enabled the DNS setting under TCP/IP properties with info that is non-SoVerNet-related, eg: DNS numbers for your company's LAN, you would NOT want to disable it.
  • select TCP/IP and click on Properties.
  • Click on "DNS Configuration" tab,
-- If "Enabled," delete the information.
    -- Choose "Disable DNS"
  • Click "OK" and "OK" again.

You should get a message asking you to restart your computer, which you should do.

  • Click More
  • Click Edit Entry and Modem Properties
  • In the Edit Phonebook Entry screen,

      -- Click Server-assigned IP Address
(if you have a static IP address, click Specify instead and enter the address)
-- Click Server-assigned Name Server Address
    • Click OK, click OK, then you are back at the Dial Up Networking window. NT should prompt you that these settings will not take effect until the next time you start Remote Access. It may also prompt you to restart.
