Year 2000 (Y2K) Statement

The Year 2000 Problem

During the 1970's and 1980's, computer software programmers wrote code which only used two digits to show the year. For example, instead of using four spaces (digits) such as 1975, programmers used two digits so the '19' was fixed and only the last two digits could be changed. This was a great accomplishment at the time; saving the space two digits occupied was important. However, now that the year 2000 is approaching, many software programs and basic computer code might read the year 2000 as 1900.

The Issues

Realistically, it is not likely that all Year 2000 problems will be resolved. Any device or appliance that is date-dependent could be affected by this problem. Predictions are that we could see power outages, phone service interruptions, TV and radio scheduling problems, and other minor inconveniences.

We encourage you to review the issues and take a common sense approach to the problem. Your computer's operating system and/or basic code may not be prepared for the year 2000. Since all software running on your computer is dependent on the date function of your computer, you might receive email dated January 1, 1900, for example. Even though the message was sent to you with the correct date, your computer reports it as something different.

As such, you may want to contact your computer manufacturer(s) to ascertain whether or not your particular computer model and other equipment are Y2K ready. And there are many sites on the Internet which may be able to address your concerns.

At SoVerNet, we have been diligently addressing the Year 2000 problem. Relying principally on third-party products ourselves, we have reviewed our vendor's Y2K Readiness Plans and Compliance Statements, and we have provided links to those statements on our website as well as within this letter. We have reviewed our internal systems and are prepared for any problem arising when the date changes to January 1, 2000.

Our goal is to effect a seamless transition into the new millenium.

If you would like to access any of our major vendor sites, we have included those links below. These URL addresses will take you to the vendor's Y2k statement sites.
