Greetings, Friends and Customers December 1999
You will notice a new feature in this message. In addition to the usual URL links for expanded information on each topic, certain topics have an associated unique email address. Email to these addresses will be saved for subsequent manual processing and will generate an automatic response back to you confirming receipt of your message. This will organize the many and varied responses we receive from these mailings so they are responded to in a more timely, specific, and appropriate manner. Last summer, we announced to you that we had accepted an offer from Frontline Communications to purchase SoVerNet and that we were looking forward to bringing you lots of new and exciting services. Well, the second half of that statement is still true--as evidenced by announcements elsewhere in this message. As for the first half, by now you may have read the news that this agreement has expired without being extended. Although this leaves us open for discussion with any organization or individual interested in the future of SoVerNet's diligent deployment of high performance internet and e-commerce services for its customers, we are no longer actively negotiating the sale of the company. We remain the oldest and largest independent, locally owned and operated ISP in the state...Vermont's Sovereign Internet Connection. On to the new and exciting services...
Broadband access and secure e-commerce are among the new products and services we are beginning to offer. An improved interface for web-based customer account management and toll-free technical support are available now too. And more is "in the works." Some are services that customers have requested, others are aimed at creating greater efficiencies within SoVerNet .
SDSL ("Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line") is currently available in Bellows Falls, Brattleboro and Rutland and being tested in Burlington. SDSL allows delivery of a dedicated high speed bi-directional internet connection on inexpensive single-pair telephone circuits. With speeds ranging from 160kbps to 1040kbps and prices starting at about $160 per month, this service is excellent for a business or organization that wants to run a server or have remote access to large amounts of data from their primary location. An institution with tele-commuters may also find SDSL, combined with dialup, to be an economical solution to their remote access needs. For more information, see our SDSL page . E-commerce is the new business buzzword. At SoVerNet , it's a reality. Secure e-commerce, using SSL ("Secure Socket Layer") transactions provided on our web servers, will allow a local business, small or large, to make its product available--securely, reliably and continuously--to customers anywhere in the world. If you would like to learn more about our e-commerce services, please look at our web-site devoted to the topic . You now can do more than ever to access and manage your SoVerNet account using a web-browser. Check, read and reply to your email; compose new email messages; view the access numbers list; change your password; check usage limits (quotas); set up, remove or check the status of email forwarding; request additional email-only accounts; and more as it becomes available. Be sure to read the "How To" section available from the main menu . Send comments on the customer web interface via email to mailto:customers-soverall@sover.net .
We're pleased to announce a toll-free technical support number, available
